¡Hola! Estamos ya terminando mayo, parece que por fin llega el buen tiempo. Tenemos un pequeño huerto y la semana pasada comenzamos a plantar en él los tomates, pimientos, berenjenas... como nos sobraron plantas de tomate cherry, me decidí a plantar uno de ellos bocabajo. Hay muchas páginas en internet donde explican como tener plantas bocabajo en la terraza, balcón, etc., como estos ejemplos:

Siempre me he preguntado si la planta no tratará de crecer como siempre, girando el tallo hacia arriba. Así que aproveché una garrafa de agua vacía, la forré de papel de aluminio por dentro (porque no me gusta que crezcan algas porque da la luz a la tierra) y ahí está la planta de tomatitos, si crece bien tendré unos deliciosos tomates en mi propia terraza, ñam-ñam. Ya os contaré como va evolucionando.

Hi! We are just ending May, and it seems good weather arrived at least. We have a little vegetable patch and last weekend we started to plant our vegetables: tomatoes, peppers, eggplants... and since we had some cherry-tomato remaining plants, I decided to plant one of them upside down. I always wondered if the plant would try to grow upwards, bending its stem. So I used an empty water container, I put some alumminium foil at the inside (I don't want green algae growing because of light on the soil) and put there one of tomato-cherry plants. If it works I will have many delicious tomatoes in my own balcony, yum-yum. I will let you know how does it works.

Jersey "descapotable" / Convertible sweater

¡Hola! ¿Qué tal va este mes de abril que se nos termina? Espero que muy bien.
Para estos tiempos de primavera con fresquito mañanero y más calor al mediodía, os dejo una buena idea para un jersey de punto. Todo en él es totalmente normal excepto las mangas: están tejidas en dos piezas que se unen con botones, de manera que si tienes frío, los abrochas y tienes un jersey de manga larga. Y si tienes calor, pues las desabrochas y tienes un jersecito de manga corta. ¿No es genial? Espero que os guste tanto como a mí y os hagais uno parecido.

Hi there! How is this month going on? I hope very well. 
Today I just drop an idea for spring time, with this cool weather in the morning and quite warm at midday. It's just a normal swater, but the sleeves were knitted in two parts, which are linked together with buttons. In this way, if weather is cold, you just button it up and you have a long-sleeved sweater. If weather is warm, you unbutton and there you are, a nice short-sleeve sweater. I love this sweater, I hope you will use this idea and make one for yourself.

Mini-macetero de macramé / Mini-plant hanger

¡Hola! Llevo unos días guardando un pequeño recipiente de plástico para plantar perejil en él, me gusta tener perejil fresco para cocinar. Ayer por fin me decidí y, como el mejor lugar para situarlo es un ganchito al lado de la ventana, con un ovillo de lana que tenía por ahí le hice un pequeño colgador con cuatro nudos de macramé. Para que quedase un poco más lucido le añadí unos botones, como veis son simples botones de una camisa, pero le dan un toque más chic. Espero que las semillas germinen pronto y así tendré mi perejil listo para cocinar.

Hi! I've been keeping this little plastic container to plant some parsley in it, I like to have fresh herbs to cook with. Yesterday I did it, and the best place to put the little pot was hanging from a little hanger in the wall beside the window. Thus, I used some yarn remnant to make this little plant hanger, with a few square knots and some spiral stitches. I added a few buttons, just simple buttons from an old shirt, but now the hanger looks nicer. I hope the seeds will germinate soon and I will have my parsley ready to cook.

Funda para disco duro /Hard-drive cozy

¡Hola! Hace ya tiempo me hice con un disco duro externo, nunca se sabe cuando se queda una sin espacio en el ordenador (o si un virus te va a aniquilar todo lo que está ahí almacenado). Así que en cuanto vi que venía sin funda, ni corta ni perezosa me hice con el ganchillo y aquí os enseño la funda tan coqueta que le hice, con un bolsillo para guardar el cable de conexión al ordenador y un botón para cerrarlo. ¿Qué os parece? Bien sencillo, tejido a puntos bajos.

Hi! Some time ago I bought a portable hard-drive, just in case I run out space in my computer (or a virus destroyed everything stored there). When I realized it has no case, I ran for my hook and crocheted this nice cozy, even with a pocket to put wire in it, and a button to secure everything. What do you think about it? It's so easy to make, crocheted in simple stich.

¡Hola! Estos días me estoy volviendo adicta a Pinterest. Es una página muy interesante, donde personas de todo el mundo cuelgan enlaces de páginas que les gustan o les llaman la atención. Hay diferentes categorías y se pueden encontrar multitud de ideas para hacer otras labores o artesanías, o para mejorar alguna técnica. He añadido una pestaña en la parte de arriba, desde donde podéis mis paneles ("boards"), donde voy colgando los enlaces que encuentro más interesantes. ¡Espero que os resulte útil!

Cesta de camisetas /Basket from T-shirts

¡Hola de nuevo! Ya terminé mi cesta para la colada. Ha quedado bien vistosa, y parece resistente. Y lo mejor es que cuando esté sucia... ¡directa a la lavadora! Al final he necesitado 15 camisetas para hacerla, con la técnica que publiqué en el post anterior, pero ya tengo cesta nueva y no he tirado 15 camisetas, todo lo que se pueda reciclar es poco. Aquí os pongo una foto, espero que os guste y que os animéis a reciclar de esta forma, es muy entretenido y muy práctico.

Hi again! I've already finished the basket to make laundry. It looks very colorful, and seems sturdy as well. And a good point to consider is that, when the basket got dirty, it will just go to the washing-machine! Finally I needed 15 T-shirts to make it, using the technique I posted just before. But now I have a basket and I didn't throw 15 T-shirts away, anything you can recycle is not enough. Here I post a picture, I hope you will like it and that you also use this technique to recycle some old clothes. It is very enjoyable, and also practical.

Ocupadísima / Very busy

¡Hola! Últimamente he estado muy ocupada, cosas del trabajo y personales que no dejaban tiempo para nada, ni siquiera un poquito para el blog. Pero parece que ya se va normalizando la situación. Hoy os dejo el enlace de una interesante técnica de reciclado, se trata de como hacer "hilo" a partir de camisetas viejas. En estos días estoy con ello, quiero hacerme una cesta para la ropa sucia y me ha parecido una buena idea usar unas viejas camisetas que tenía guardadas "por si acaso". Su "por si acaso" ya llegó, en cuanto la tenga terminada pongo una foto para que veáis como queda. Además es una técnica muy versátil, se pueden hacer multitud de objetos prácticos. El problema es que si son de un tamaño un poco grande puedes necesitar bastantes camisetas para reciclar. ¡Espero que os guste!

Hi there! I have been very busy recently, for different reasons (both about work and personal issues). And I had very little free time, not even enough to write a few lines here. But it seems everything get back to noraml, so here I am again. Today I drop a link that shows an interesting recycling technique, how to make yarn from old T-shirts. In these days I'm working with it, I want to make a kind of basket to put dirty clothes in, and I thought it was a nice idea to use some old T-shirts that I had stored "just in case (I would need them)". So I found the "just in case" and I'm using them to make my basket. I will post a picture as soon as I finish the work. In addition, I think it is a very versatile technique, since you can make plenty of useful things. The only problem is that, if you want quite a big thing, you may need quite a lot of T-shirts. Anyway, I hope you'll like it.

Haciendo jabón /Soap making

¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Para estrenarlo, ayer estuve haciendo jabón, con el proceso en frío. No hice ningún jabón especialmente bonito o complejo, simplemente lo hice para reciclar algo de aceite que tenía reservado. Ya he hecho jabón varias veces, empecé a hacerlo simplemente para reciclar el aceite de la freidora, ya que no tenía cerca ningún contenedor de aceite. Pero me estoy aficionando, ahora uso estas pastillas para lavar los platos y también para hacer jabón líquido.
Si nunca habéis probado, la primera vez puede ser un poco pesado, parece que no se llega a sacar la "traza" del jabón, pero en realidad no es nada complicado. Hay que tener cuidado al calcular las cantidades de sosa  y agua, según los aceites añadidos y tener mucho cuidado al hacer la solución de sosa, que es muy corrosiva y libera unos vapores muy molestos cuando se está disolviendo. Pero por lo demás es bien sencillo.
Como podéis ver, se pueden usar unos cartones de leche como molde, en caso de que no tengáis otra cosa. Los moldes de silicona también son estupendos.
En este caso, usé aceite de oliva, aceite de girasol y un poco de manteca de cerdo (solo con aceite de oliva el jabón queda demasiado blando). Mañana los desmoldaré (los del molde de silicona) y cortaré las pastillas en los otros dos. Y a esperar a que cure, un mes o mes y medio.

Happy New Year! To start 2013, I've been making soap yesterday, using the cold process. I didn't make any special o pretty soap, I just wanted to recycle some used oil I had at home. I have done it several time. I started to recycle used oil, since I have no oil trash container near home. But I like to do it, and I use this soap to wash the dishes and also to make liquid soap.
If you had never made soap, maybe the first time may be a bit hard, it seems your mix never gets trace, but it is not complicated at all. You must be careful to calculate amounts of lye and water, depending on the oils you are using. And be extremelly careful handling lye, which is very caustic and releases toxic vapours while dissolving in water. Except from this, it is quite simple.
As you can see, you can use some milk tetra brick as mold, in case you don't have any other thing. Silicon molds used to bake are very good for soap-making.
In this case, I used used olive oil, mixed with some new sunflower oil and a low amount of pigfat (otherwise the soap made only with olive oil is too soft). I will take soap out of the silicon mold tomorrow, and will cut in bars the rest. And then, 4 to 6 weeks of waiting to get the soap cured.

Vela de Adviento / Advent candle

¡Hola! Mañana entramos en el último mes del año, ya se acerca la Navidad. Desde Dinamarca me traje una bonita tradición, la de las velas de adviento. Estas velas llevan marcados o pintados los números del 1 al 24, y cada día de diciembre se encienden el tiempo necesario para que se consuma el número correspondiente a la fecha, hasta el día de Nochebuena, que se encendería hasta consumirse. Como en España no encontré velas de Adviento en ningún sitio, me pinté esta. Es un diseño bastante sencillo, para otros años seguramente iré haciéndolas más adornadas. Pero su luz cálida irá acercándonos a la Navidad.

Hi there! Tomorrow we enter in December, last month of the year, Christmas is round the corner. I imported this nice tradition from Denmark, the adven candles. In these candles, numbers from 1st to 24th are marked of painted, and they must be burning each day as time as required to consume the candle to make the number of each day disappear, until Christmas Eve, when it is burning till it run out. Since I couldn't find this kind of candles in Spain, I decided to paint one. It is quite a simple motive, probably next years I will paint more elaborated designs. Anyway, its warm light will take us closer to Christmas.

Frutero hecho con periódicos / Fruit bowl made from newspapers.

¡Buenas! Hoy os traigo un frutero que hice para mi casa con papel de periódico. Usé una ensaladera de molde, y fui pegando tiras y cuadraditos de papel de periódico, creo que lleva como 10 capas de papel. Después, un par de manos de pintura y ya tenemos un frutero nuevo, además de haber dado otro uso a un periódico que hubiese acabado en la basura.

Hi there! Today I'm showing a fruit bowl that I made from an old newspaper. I used a salad bowl as mold and I just glued paper stripes and squares. I think it has 10 layers thick. After drying, a couple of paints layers and there we have a new fruit bowl, and a new life for an old newspaper that would end in the litter bin.
